Drought contingency planning

Championed by the Upper Gunnison River Water Conservancy District (UGRWCD), the Upper Gunnison Drought Plan is a Drought Contingency Plan (DCP), designed to help the District design and plan for resilience from the impacts of droughts with regard to sustainable management of water resources. This plan was designed to help the District prepare for an reduce risk of water shortages and provide alternatives to build short- and long-term resilience to drought.

This planning process is funded through a U.S. Bureau of Reclamation WaterSMART grant with District and basin stakeholders matching funds and technical assistance.

The District has worked with local water users, municipalities, industry, educational institutions, agricultural producers, recreationalists, and environmental/conservation groups throughout the planning process.

The process is managed by Task Force that represents water user interests. The District expects significant opportunity for public input through stakeholder meetings and interviews, and a public comment period for the plan itself.
